Lakers Set to Host Findlay This Weekend

GVSU will look to get back in GLIAC title race

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State baseball team will return home for eight of its final nine regular season games, beginning with this weekend against Findlay. The Lakers will host the Oilers in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 26) at 1 p.m. at the GVSU Baseball Field.

The Lakers, who are 7-0 in "home" games this year (five of which were played at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex) and 2-0 at the GVSU Baseball Field, will be wearing new uniforms on Saturday for the doubleheader as they look to get back in to the race for the GLIAC regular season championship. The two teams will face off again on Sunday in a nine-inning contest beginning at noon.

GVSU enters the weekend with a 24-11 overall record and a 15-6 record in the GLIAC, while Findlay is 11-24 overall with an 8-17 mark in the conference. The Lakers are also ranked third in the first set of NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings, which came out this week. The top six teams in the final regional rankings will qualify for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament.

GVSU has won 18 straight games against Findlay, including a 3-0 record against the Oilers last season, winning in Findlay by scores of 4-2, 9-1 and 3-0. Findlay last beat the Lakers on April 4th, 2009, by a 5-4 score in Allendale.

Sunday's nine-inning game will be webcasted live on gvsulakers.com with Tom Cleary providing play-by-play.
