Box Score Three-point shooting is something the Grand Valley State women's basketball team knew it would be able to do quite well this season. And it doesn't look like that confidence was misplaced. For the second time in as many games, the Lakers drained at least 10 three-point field goals and came away with a double-digit victory. Saturday (Nov. 22) afternoon, GVSU went 10 for 31 from distance, besting Indianapolis 73-57 at the Fieldhouse Arena.
Â
Senior forward
Kat LaPrairie poured in a team-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a 6-for-10 line from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward
Kayla Dawson also had an efficient day, making 8 of her 11 shots and totaling 17 points. Following a rocky shooting start, junior guard
Brionna Barnett finished with 12 points.
Â
As a whole, GVSU dominated the specialty stats. Seventeen offensive rebounds—four came from sophomore
Jammie Botruff—resulted in 16 second-chance points. It tallied 20 points in the paint. It forced 17 turnovers, scoring 13 points off those miscues. It got 20 points from its bench, headlined by Botruff's career-high nine points.
Â
To sum it all up, with conference play right around the corner, these Lakers are playing like contenders.
Â
After falling behind in the game's opening moments, GVSU rallied to take a 16-13 lead 10 minutes before halftime.
Â
That's when LaPrairie caught fire. The Rockford, Michigan native made five straight triples—four came on consecutive possessions—in a three-minute stretch to give the Lakers a 31-15 lead.
Â
GVSU would push its advantage to as many as 21 points (58-37) by the 12:33 mark of the second half. The Greyhounds were unable to get the deficit into single digits at any point after LaPrairie's string of trifectas.
Â
The Lakers now have a full week to prepare for No. 13 Gannon, which is off to a 3-0 start this season. GVSU and the Golden Knights will tip off next Saturday (Nov. 29) at 1 p.m. inside the Fieldhouse Arena.
