WALTHAM, MASS. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team continued their opening weekend at the Bentley Tournament with two more ranked opponents Friday. GVSU took down #6 Barry in five sets, then defeated eighteenth-ranked Lynn in four sets. The two victories keep the Lakers unbeaten on the young season, sitting at 3-0, all three victories coming over ranked teams.
In game one of the day, GVSU held on to defeat sixth-ranked Barry in five sets. The Bucs took the opening set 16-25, before the Lakers answered with the next two by the scores of 25-20 and 25-21. Barry forced a fifth set by winning set four 22-25, but GVSU claimed set five with a 15-13 victory.
Finley Arp posted 16 kills and 11 digs, one of four Lakers with double-digit kills.
Grace Busold totaled 12 kills,
Brianna Stawski had 11, and
Kennedy Arp registered 10.
Gabby Orlet notched a double-double, with a career-high 50 assists to go along with 15 digs.
Lexi Armstrong had 21 digs from her libero position.
Closing out the day, GVSU stayed undefeated with a four-set win over Lynn. After the Lakers took the first set 25-21, Lynn answered with a 22-25 set two victory. Grand Valley responded by taking the final two sets by the scores of 25-22 and 25-16.
Finley Arp again recorded 16 kills, swinging .364, adding 11 digs and two service aces.
Grace Busold had 13 kills and 10 digs, with
Brianna Stawski and
Kennedy Arp each posting 12 kills.
Gabby Orlet tied her career-high with 50 assists.
Lexi Armstrong had a team-high 18 digs. As a team, the Lakers swung at a .324 clip, recording 65 kills.
