SURPRISE, Ariz. – The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's tennis team earned their 20
th win of the season and advanced to the NCAA Final Four after defeating No. 10 UT Tyler 4-1 in the Elite Eight Wednesday. Ther Lakers improve to 20-1 on the season and advance to the final four for the first time in program history.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Amanda Diaz and
Rachel Sam posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Mischa Briggs and
Ipek Sakiroglu clinched the doubles point for the Lakers with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Natasha Sengphrachanh claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at the top singles position to put GVSU up 2-0.
Amanda Diaz made it 3-0 in favor of GVSU 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
Vale Mozas fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to make it 3-1.
Mischa Briggs claimed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 three-set win at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for GVSU.
The Lakers will face No. 3 Nova Southeastern in the Final Four on Friday, May 22
