ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team moved on to Sunday's GLIAC Championship game with a convincing 16-6 victory over Davenport in the semifinals. The Lakers move to 11-7 overall, advancing to play Northern Michigan on Sunday.
The GVSU offense exploded in the first quarter, with six players scoring seven goals to help them lead 7-2 after 15 minutes. Both defenses locked in throughout the second period, allowing one goal apiece, making the score 8-3 at the break.
In the third quarter, GVSU once again saw their offense find a groove, outscoring DU 6-0 in the period. Davenport won the fourth quarter 3-2, getting two late goals to make the game closer at the end.
Ella Boose led the offense with four goals and one assist, with
Leah Leonard adding a hat trick, along with an assist.
Jillian Bingman,
Gracie Bancroft, and
Eliana LaMange each scored two goals. Three other Lakers all scored once.
Delaney Smith distributed three assists, while
Kendra Swope had two, and five others had one. Swope picked up a team-high five draw controls.
Defensively,
Sarah Krause made eight saves in net, causing four turnovers and grabbing two groundballs. Bingman and
Quinn McElroy each recorded three groundballs. McElroy and
Ainsley Shilling each caused two turnovers.
