#7 GVSU Sweeps 4-Game Series With Parkside, Winning The Finale 5-4

The Lakers close regular season action 41-8

#7 Grand Valley State claimed a 5-4 comeback victory over Parkside Saturday afternoon, marking the second consecutive game the Lakers scored late to pick up a GLIAC win. GVSU closed regular season action 41-8 overall and 20-4 in GLIAC action. GVSU will be the top seed at the 2026 GLIAC Tournament after claiming the regular season championship. GLIAC tournament action will begin Thursday, May 7 at UWM Field in Utica, Michigan. 

Parkside led for the first seven innings of play, scoring two in the first and one in the fourth. The Lakers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a Jovan Gill solo home run to right. The Rangers answered with a run in the top of the seventh, but C Nick Krstich added a solo shot to right to pull the Lakers within two (4-2). 

Freshman 2B Kaden Howard opened the bottom of the eighth with a walk and 3B Caleb Estrada came through with a 1-out single to right center that advanced Hoard to third. Freshman RF Josh Fleming walked to load the bases and senior CF Jake Skaggs hit a sac fly to right that plated Howard and advanced Estrada to third. Fleming stole second and senior 1B Will Bowen delivered the game-winning single to center that scored Estrada and Fleming. 

Parkside loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but freshman pitcher Michael Giroux picked up his first save with a strikeout to end the game. 

Senior Ayden VanEnkevort picked up the win on the mound, striking out two in the top of the eighth. Ty Uchman got the start and went two innings, followed by Zach Warren who also went two innings. Duncan McLaughlin yielded two hits in three innings of work. Keagan Bobbitt got the first two out in the top of the ninth before giving way to Giroux. 

Gill was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, while Krstich was 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks. Bowen was 1-for-4 with a 2-run single, Skaggs doubled and drove in a run and Estrada was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
