Lakers Fall to SVSU Tuesday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State Tuesday (Apr. 7) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 17-15 on the season after dropping game one 7-4 and game two 11-5. 
 
Game One – L, 7-4
Saginaw Valley State opened the scoring in the fifth inning on a three-run home run to center field. GVSU answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. Elizabeth Wesoloski drove in both runs with a two-run single to center field to score Camryn Hall and Faith Edwards. The Lakers would score two runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. MaryJane Goodman tied the game at three with a single up the middle to score Eliana Eiland. Later in the inning, GVSU took the lead off a SVSU error. The Cardinals would regain the lead by scoring four runs in the seventh inning and would hold the Lakers off the board to secure the win.
 
Game Two – L, 11-5
SVSU scored five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lakers would cut the deficit to two off a Grace Usher three-run home run to center field in the fourth inning. The home run was Usher's second of the season. The Cardinals answered with two runs in the fifth inning off a two-run double. SVSU would make it 9-3 in the fifth on a two-run home run to center field and increased their lead to 11-3 with another two-run home run in the seventh. GVSU would add two runs in the seventh inning off an Edwards RBI double to center field and Wesolowski RBI single through the left side.
