GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team closed out the road portion of their regular season schedule, winning at Davenport 18-3. The win secured their 13
th GLIAC regular season title and was their 50
th consecutive win in regular season conference play. GVSU enters the final week of the regular season with a 9-7 record and 7-0 in league play.
Grand Valley State scored the opening two goals of the game, before the home team got one back. The Lakers answered with the final three scores of the first period to lead 5-1 after 15 minutes. They dominated the second, scoring seven goals in the quarter, compared to just one from the Panthers, taking a 12-2 advantage into the break. The GVSU defense allowed six shots the entire first half, with DU turning it over 10 times.
In the third quarter, the Lakers outscored the Panthers 4-0, pushing their lead up to 14. Two more goals in the fourth quarter capped off the ninth straight Laker victory.
Leah Leonard scored a career-high six goals to lead the offense, taking only six shots to get there.
Ella Boose recorded five goals and six draw controls this afternoon.
Emerson Holthouser had a hat trick, with
Sydney Grafton,
Gracie Bancroft,
Delaney Smith, and
Indira Marker all scored once. Smith had two assists, while seven other Lakers had one.
Isabella De La Cerda notched five draw controls.
In net,
Sarah Krause played 45 minutes, making five saves, then
Maggie O'Neill played the final 15, totaling four saves.
Quinn McElroy caused three turnovers and picked up three groundballs, with
Lauren Volk,
Ainsley Shilling, and Krause all having two groundballs.
