ALLENDALE, Mich. – This weekend, 95 athletes will represent Grand Valley State track and field in five meets across the country. Competition for the #1 men and #3 women begins Thursday and will continue through Saturday. Athletes compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.) Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.), Virginia Challenge (Charlottesville, Va.), Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invite (Rochester, Mich.) and Gibson Invitational (Terre Haute, Ind.) Friday and Saturday.

Grand Valley State heads into the penultimate weekend of the regular season ranked as the No. 1 men's and No. 3 women's team in NCAA Division II, as
announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday, Apr. 14. GVSU athletes rank in the top 10 in DII across 22 events, including No. 1 marks by
Koby Fraaza in the 10000m (28:52.63) and
Owen Westerkamp in the 3000m steeplechase (8:46.22).
Competition begins as early as 7 a.m. PT for the Lakers as
Annika Sandman takes the track at Bryan Clay. Sandman will race alongside 32 other athletes in the 10000m open run on Thursday.
A total of 31 Lakers will compete at the Bryan Clay Invite, the majority of which are mid-distance or distance runners; however, a handful of athletes will compete in sprints and jumps events, as well.
The same jumpers and sprinters competing at Azusa Pacific will also compete at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Joshua Page (200m, 400m),
Marcus Gelpi (high jump),
Alaina Diaz (long jump) and
Alexis Weber (high jump) will all compete in the elite heats and flights on Saturday and
Braden Prielipp competes in the collegiate high jump Friday.
Friday will see nine throwers compete at the Virginia Challenge in shot put and hammer throw. Just one thrower, Issac Tavo, will throw discus in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday.
Pole vaulters take the runway Friday, as well. Ten Lakers, five men and five women, will compete at Oakland University's Elaine Leigh Invite on Friday. The women begin competition at 1:30 p.m. and the men will follow.
Finally, more than 40 athletes (44 to be exact) race, jump and throw at Indiana State's Gibson Invitational beginning Friday.
