#7 Lakers Sweep Roosevelt In Saturday Doubleheader

CHICAGO, ILL. – The seventh-ranked Grand Valley State baseball team completed a doubleheader road sweep over Roosevelt Saturday afternoon. They defeated the Lakers 6-0 in the opener, then took the second game 11-1. GVSU has won three straight games, improving to 29-6 this season, and 9-2 in the GLIAC.
 
In the first game, the Lakers brought across four runs in the second inning to take the early lead. They would tack on single runs in both the third and seventh innings, with the Laker pitching staff and defense taking care of the rest, registering the sixth shutout of the season.
 
Owen Avery threw six scoreless in the first game, allowing just one hit, striking out two batters. Zach Warren threw the final inning, punching out two batters. Caleb Estrada drove in two runs, while Evan Morrison, Caden Thelen, Noah Brandt, and Kaden Howard each bringing in one. Jovan Gill had two hits and Josh Fleming scored twice.
 
Grand Valley State got off to a quick start in the second contest, scoring three times in the opening frame. They added four more runs in the third, three in the fourth, and scored once more in the seventh.
 
Fleming had a big game, going 3-4, with a home run, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Morrison recorded two knocks, bringing home two runs. Gill notched two hits and two runs scored. On the mound, Jackson Kees threw a complete game, striking out seven, allowing one run on four hits.
 
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon, with game four starting at 12:00 central time.
