GVSU Gets Set To Play UAH In Thursday's Final Four

PITTSBURGH, PENN. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team will take part in their second straight Final Four, playing The University of Alabama in Huntsville Thursday night. The Lakers are looking to reach their second straight National Championship game, and the third in program history.

On Tuesday, the Lakers dismantled Carson-Newman in their Elite Eight matchup, winning 96-48. It was briefly tied at two early on, but the Lakers scored the next 11 points and never looked back, handing the Eagles their largest loss in program history. Nicole Kamin and Ava Scanlon each scored 16 points, with Scanlon tying her career-high in process. MacKenzie Bisballe tallied 14 points and six boards, with Molly Anderson adding eight points, hitting two three-pointers to start the offense. GVSU dominated on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 52-30.
 
The Lakers have two All-Americans for the first time since 2011. Paige VanStee was named an All-American by the WBCA, and MacKenzie Bisballe earned Third-Team honors from the D2CCA. Head coach Mike Williams was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year for the second straight season, after leading GVSU to a 34-1 record and another trip the Final Four. This is the third trip to the Final Four over the past five seasons, with the Lakers looking to defend their National Championship.
 
UAH punched their ticket to the Final Four with a come from behind victory over Cal Poly Pomona in the Elite Eight. The Chargers outscored the Broncos 21-6 in the fourth quarter to erase a seven-point deficit and claim a 61-53 victory. Huntsville is in their first Elite Eight in program history, posting a record of 32-5, a program-record for wins in a season. They are led by WBCA All-American Lili Wilken, who averages 22.2 points and 7.2 rebounds, both which are tops on the team. No other Charger scores in double-figures. UAH records nearly 77 points a game, while only giving up 59. They shoot over 37% from three, making almost 10 per game, both top three marks in the country. This will be the first ever matchup between GVSU and UAH.
