NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is set to face Ashland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday (Mar. 14) afternoon at 2:30 PM on the campus of Walsh University.

GVSU is making their 13
th appearance in the NCAA tournament in program history and first since the 2018-19 season. The Lakers won the GLIAC tournament for the eighth time in program history last weekend in Marquette, Michigan. GVSU defeated Michigan Tech 82-70 in the semifinals and Northern Michigan 67-57 in the championship game.
David Wilkerson was named the tournament MVP while
Mason Docks was named to the all-tournament team.
The Lakers enter the NCAA tournament with a 25-6 record and were ranked number two in the Midwest Region. GVSU is scoring over 77 points per game this season shooting at a 43% clip.
Ethan Alderink leads the Lakers in scoring averaging 13.1 points and is second grabbing 5.5 rebounds. Trevor smith Jr. is averaging over 12 points and ranks third in the country with a 3.31 assist/turnover ratio.
Jalen Charity is averaging 12.4 points and 5.1 rebounds while ranking second on the team with 23 blocks.
Ashland enters the NCAA tournament ranked number seven in the Midwest Region. The Eagles are 20-10 on the season and went 13-7 in the GMAC. The Lakers defeated the Eagles 74-55 in the season opener on a neutral site court in Toledo, Ohio back in November. Ashland is averaging just under 78 points shooting over 50% from the field. Maceo Williams was named the GMAC player of the year and is averaging 18.9 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 60% from the field. Cooper Davis is scoring 12.5 points on 36% shooting from the field, while Jason Moore has added 11.5 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Eagles.
