MARION, Ill. – The Grand Valley State softball team split day two at the Oasis Tournament Saturday (Feb. 28) afternoon after falling to Indianapolis 5-4 in eight innings and defeating Missouri – St. Louis 10-2 in five innings. The Lakers move to 5-4 on the season.
vs Indianapolis – L, 5-4 (8-Innings)
GVSU opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with two runs.
Karli Dorr hit a two-out, two-run single to right field that scored
Eliana Eiland and
Elizabeth Wesoloski. Indianapolis would cut the Laker lead in half in the third inning off a GVSU error to make it 2-1. The Lakers would answer in the fourth inning with two runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Camryn Hall singled to right field that scored
Carsyn Segorski. Next batter, Eiland hit an RBI double to right field that scored Hall from first. UIndy would score two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth inning to tie the game at four. The Greyhounds would score the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Eliana Eiland went 2-4 with a double, one run batted in, and a run scored.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and tied a career high 10 strikeouts while allowing three earned runs. Dorr also drove in two runs at the plate with one hit.
vs Missouri – St. Louis – W, 10-2 (5-Innings)
Missouri – St. Louis scored the first runs of the game in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Lakers responded in the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
Elizabeth Wesoloski tied the game with a two-run double that scored
Camryn Hall and
Faith Edwards. Later in the inning,
MaryJane Goodman brought home Wesoloski with an RBI groundout.
The Lakers would add two runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Wesoloski hit a two-run single to right center to bring home Hall and
Brynn Taliercio. GVSU would score five runs in the fifth to claim the eight-run mercy rule win. Eliana Eilan smacked a two-run triple to left center to bring home Goodman and
Kylee Hoebeke. Two batters later,
Jasmine Mauk singled to center field to score Eiland. Next batter, Hall ended the game with an RBI single through the right side to score Mauk.
Allison Wright got the start in the circle and earned her first collegiate win after tossing all five innings allowing no earned runs with two strikeouts.
GVSU will close the weekend at the Oasis Tournament tomorrow, March 1
st against Lincoln. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 PM ET, 12:30 PM CT.
