GREENSBURG, PENN. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener Friday afternoon, falling to Seton Hill 12-9.
 
Ella Boose got the scoring started, netting a goal less than one minute into the game. The Griffins responded with the next five scores, before Boose and Gracie Bancroft got GVSU back on the board at the end of the first half, making the score 5-3 at the break.
 
The Lakers got within one early in the second half, courtesy of a goal from Jillian Bingman. SHU would respond with three straight goals to push their lead up to 8-4 midway through the third quarter. GVSU was able to get back within two goals on multiple occasions, but could never draw back even, eventually falling by three.
 
Ella Boose posted a hat trick, with Indira Marker, Gracie Bancroft, Ainsley Shilling, Delaney Smith, Eliana Lamange, and Jillian Bingman all recording goals. Smith had three assists, Bancroft dished out two, while Bingman and Leah Leonard each had one.
 
Sarah Krause played all 60 minutes in the cage, recording 11 saves and four groundballs. Quinn McElroy totaled four caused turnovers and three groundballs. Shilling tallied three groundballs, with Boose and Karleigh Rothe each picking up two.
