#3 GVSU Hits The Road To Play SVSU And LSSU

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The third-ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team heads back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State.

Coming off two victories last weekend, the Lakers moved to 23-1 overall and 15-1 in league play. They sit one game up on Ferris State in the GLIAC standings with four games to play in the regular season. GVSU defeated Roosevelt 80-56 on Thursday, then they took down Parkside 74-56 Saturday afternoon. MacKenzie Bisballe averaged 18 points over the weekend, and Paige VanStee had 13 a game. Avery Lay scored a career-high 17 points in the win over Roosevelt.
 
The Lakers and Cardinals met up in the first weekend of GLIAC play in early December. GVSU outscored SVSU 27-4 in the first quarter, cruising to a 92-45 victory. VanStee led the way with 18 points and a career-high nine steals. Bisballe had 14 points and Molly Anderson added 10.
 
Saginaw Valley State has struggled since the start of the new year, dropping 12 of the 14 games played in that span. They have fallen to 10th place in the GLIAC standings at 3-13. The Cardinals average just over 60 points per contest, with three in double-figures, led by Megan McCalla's 14.6. Their defense allows over 70 points, with teams shooting over 41.9% against them.
 
In the opening game of the GLIAC season, GVSU hosted LSSU to Allendale. Grand Valley State dominated from the opening tip, coming away with an 89-39 victory. Bisballe posted 15 points, with VanStee recording 12, and Jordyn Bonnema had 10 points.
 
One spot ahead of the Cardinals in the GLIAC standings are the Lakers of LSSU. At 3-13 in league play, LSSU holds the tiebreaker over SVSU to sit two games back of the final spot in the conference tournament. The Lakers have the second-worst scoring defense in the league, allowing 73.3 points per game. On the offensive side, they score 61.8 points per game, paced by senior Grace Bradford, who averages a double-double with 15.3 points and 10 rebounds. LSSU has 22 straight games against GVSU, dating back to the 2011-12 season.
