#5 Lakers Back Home For Two GLIAC Games

ALLENDALE – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team returns home for a pair of GLIAC games this weekend at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers will host Parkside on Friday, October 9th at 5:30 PM and Wayne State on Sunday, October 11th at 1:00 PM.

GVSU is coming off two shutout wins over Davenport and Roosevelt. The Lakers defeated Davenport 3-0 on the road before scoring a season high six goals in a 6-0 home win against Roosevelt. The Lakers improved to 8-1-2 overall and are still first place in the GLIAC with a 6-0-1 conference mark. Junior Sarah Fromm was named the GLIAC offensive player of the week for the first time this season. Fromm scored a goal in both games, while adding an assist in the win at Davenport. She has now scored in three straight games for GVSU including the game-winning goal at Parkside two weeks ago. 
 
This season, GVSU has outscored their opponents 26-5 and 20-1 in conference play. The Lakers rank third in the country averaging 21.4 shots per game. GVSU notched a season high 39 shots with 22 shots on goal last game vs Roosevelt. GVSU ranked seventh in the country averaging 2.8 assists per game and 12th in the country averaging 7.5 points per game. 
 
Vesna Dennison leads the way offensively for the Lakers scoring six goals and dishing out three assists for 15 points and two game-winning goals. Dennison enters Friday's match on a six-game point streak after scoring in the win over Roosevelt and dishing out the game-winning assist against Davenport. Ava Kozak has notched four goals four assists for 12 points this season. Kozak scored two goals last game against Roosevelt and dished out an assist in the win at Parkside. Sonya Mehta has added four goals and three assists for 11 points, while Lina Rea leads the Lakers with five assists. Goalkeeper Macie Hunter has started all 11 games posting four individual shutouts and two combined shutouts. Hunter has notched 23 saves with a 0.48 goals-against average. 
 
Parkside enters Allendale with a 6-4-1 overall record and 4-3 GLIAC record. GVSU leads the all-time series against the Rangers 20-7-1. The Lakers defeated Parkside 2-1 just two weeks ago in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Following their loss to GVSU, Parkside dropped a 2-1 decision at Saginaw Valley State before defeating Ferris State 2-1 on the road. The Rangers have outscored their opponents 21-13 on the season and 12-8 in conference play. Ava Rizzitano has scored five goals with two assists for 12 points on the season. Kate Brown leads Parkside with seven points and ranks second on the team with 11 points. Kayden Schmidt has added four goals with three of them being game-winning goals. Goalkeeper Lindsey Ferrara has started all 11 games making 33 saves with four shutouts. 
 
Wayne State is 7-1-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the GLIAC in just their first season of soccer. The Warriors won their first game in program history on August 27th in a 2-0 shutout win. This season, Wayne State is outscoring their opponents 20-7 and 11-7 in conference play. Sienna Mroue leads the Warriors with seven goals and two assists for 16 points including three game-winning goals. Mairin Wessner has notched five goals for 10 points with 18 shots on goal, while Jenna Moeller has added three goals and one assist for seven points. Goalkeeper Kate Helfen has started in nine games this season making 25 saves with four shutouts.
