#11 Lakers Shutout Davenport 3-0 Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's soccer team claimed a 3-0 shutout win at Davenport Friday (Oct. 2) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 7-1-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the GLIAC.

GVSU opened the scoring in the 25th minute from Cora Conley. Vesna Dennison sent a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper. The ball went off the goalkeeper and then hit the crossbar as Conley was in great position to head the ball into the net for the first goal of the game. That goal was Conley's first goal of the season as Dennison picked up her third assist of the season.

The Lakers would find a second goal late in the first half in the 42nd minute to double the lead. Kendall Aikens played a great pass from the right side to the middle of the box for Sarah Fromm to kick it in the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 2-0. Fromm scored her second goal of the season while Aikens notched her first assist of the year. The Lakers went into halftime with a two-goal lead and outshot Davenport 10-1.

In the second half, both teams notched five shots. The Lakers would add a third goal late in the game to seal the win. Fromm made a great pass for Aikens to run down for a breakaway. Aikens made a move past the goalkeeper and kicked it into the wide-open net for her first goal of the season.

GVSU outshot Davenport 15-6 and 9-5 in shots on goal. Sarah Fromm and Kendall Aikens scored a goal and dished out an assist each. Cora Conley scored the game-winning goal in 74 minutes played. Vesna Dennison dished out an assist with a team leading five shots. Acadia Murphy, Ana Spaine, Danielle Aitken, and Rachael Wright played all 90 minutes in the win.
