Volleyball Wins Thrilling Five Set Match At SVSU

SAGINAW, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team got back in the win column Tuesday night, defeating SVSU in five sets. The win improves the Lakers' record to 14-3 overall and they are 8-1 in league play.
 
GVSU claimed the first set 25-19, before the Cardinals bounced back to win each of the next two sets 22-25. The Lakers forced a fifth set with another 25-22 win, then after going to extra points, they took the fifth set 16-14. In the opening set, GVSU went up 10-4 to begin the frame. The Cardinals were able to get back within three points, but never any closer, as GVSU claimed the first set. Saginaw Valley answered back by winning the next two sets, going up 2-1 in the match heading to the fourth.
 
In the fourth set, GVSU once again started quickly, jumping out to a 13-6 lead. SVSU answered with a 6-1 run to get within three points, but the Lakers held them off to force a deciding fifth set. Grand Valley got up 8-5 in the final frame, but SVSU came back to go up 9-8. They eventually went up 13-11, but the Lakers scored five of the final six points, including holding off a Cardinal match point, to take the match in five sets.
 
Kennedy Arp set a career-high with 17 kills, swinging at a .452 clip, adding three blocks. Finley Arp had 15 kills and 10 digs, while Paige Sanders totaled 14 kills and four blocks. Grace Busold tallied 10 kills and 14 digs. Gabby Orlet recorded 55 assists and 15 digs, while Lexi Armstrong had a team-high 24 digs.
