Saturday's game will be Kid's Day, with a kid's zone set up on the east court, presented by Primetime Inflatables. The zone will open at noon, one hour before the start of the women's basketball game against Michigan Tech.

Last weekend, the Lakers went on the road and defeated Parkside and Roosevelt in convincing fashion to move to 18-0 on the season and 10-0 in league play. In the 66-47 victory over the Rangers, MacKenzie Bisballe led the way with 17 points, while Paige VanStee added a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. Ava Scanlon had 10 points and four rebounds and Nicole Kamin dished out a career-high nine assists. On Saturday, GVSU defeated Roosevelt 75-37, behind VanStee's 18 points and seven rebounds. She scored her 1,000th career point in the win and earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for her accomplishments.

In the first matchup between the top two teams in the conference, GVSU came away victorious, winning 78-66 over Northern Michigan. After a tight first quarter, the Lakers used big second and third quarters to lead 18 heading into the fourth quarter. NMU got it within six points late in the fourth quarter, but Avery Zeinstra buried a deep three-pointer, and GVSU knocked down free throws to ice the game away. Bisballe posted 20 points and 10 rebounds, with Kamin also scoring 20 points. Lexi Plitzuweit had 12 points and six boards and Zeinstra finished with 10.

Since dropping the game to GVSU, the Wildcats have gone 5-1 to improve their record to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in the league, tied for second place. Ranked 12th nationally, the Wildcats have tied their highest ranking of the season, as they were also 12th when the two teams met back in early January. The Wildcats are led by the reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Jacy Weisbrod, who leads the conference in scoring at 17.3 a game. She helps spark an offense that shoots 37.5% from deep, ranking fifth nationally. On top of that, the Wildcats are one of the best teams at taking care of the ball, only committing 12.1 turnovers a contest, good for second in the country. Thursday's game will feature the two best rebounding teams in the GLIAC, with both teams pulling down over 41 rebounds a game.

The Lakers began 2026 up in Houghton, defeating Michigan Tech 73-53. GVSU built an early double-digit lead, but the Huskies cut it to four late in the first half. But a 23-10 fourth quarter helped the Lakers pull away for the win. Bisballe led the way with 22 points and seven boards, with VanStee adding 13 points, and Kamin scoring 11 points.

Rounding out January will be a rematch with Michigan Tech. The Huskies are 12-6 this season, sitting in fifth in the conference at 6-4. Three Huskies average double-figures, led by Ella Mason, who pours in 15.1 a game. MTU is one of the best teams when at the charity stripe, knocking down 81.1% of their free throws, ranking third in the country. After beginning the season 8-2, Michigan Tech has hit a rough patch since the new year, going 4-4 in that stretch, started off with a loss to the Lakers.
