Following last weekend's GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, 24 Lakers sit in the top 10 of NCAA Division II rankings, 12 of which found a spot in the top five.
Braden Prielipp and
Erika Beistle lead the division with personal-best marks recorded last weekend; Prielipp cleared a 2.16m (7-1) high jump mark and Beistle shattered GVSU's program record with a 17.35m (56-11.25) shot put to rank first.
Both
Alaina Diaz and
Luke Jelderks notched personal-bests at the Open. Diaz recorded two, one in the 200m (24.16) to rank second in DII and another in long jump, shattering the GVSU program record with a 6.17m (20-3) mark that currently ranks fourth in the division. Jelderks found a personal-best of his own in long jump, creeping toward the Lakers program record with a 7.54m (24-9) mark to rank second at GVSU and in DII.
Sitting at third is
Brooke Bowers and
Sebastian Tesch. In December, Bowers cleared a 4.17m (13-8.25) pole vault height to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships. Tesch punched his ticket in December, as well, but recorded a new personal-best at this weekend's meet. With a 21.17m (69-5.5) weight throw, Tesch ranks third in the event across DII.
Four student-athletes rank fourth following their marks at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, including Diaz's long jump mark.
Marcus Gelpi cleared a season-best 2.13m (6-11.75) high jump mark,
Brandon Schirck threw for a personal-best 21.13m (69-4) weight throw and
Shelby Ulven updated her PR yet again with a 19.93m (65-4.75) weight throw.
Two top five spots are filled by pole vaulters
Brock Bryant and
Sam Paeth. Both true freshmen cleared a career-best mark of 5.16m (16-11) to not only tie for fifth in program history, but on the NCAA DII Indoor qualifying list, as well.
More than 1,000 athletes, 135 of which represent GVSU, will compete for their own spot on the 2025-26 NCAA Division II Indoor Qualifying List this weekend.
