Braden Prielipp, So. – For the first time in his career,
Braden Prielipp has been named GLIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. The honor follows Prielipp's high jump series at this weekend's GVSU Bob Eubanks Open. The sophomore opened at 1.98m (6-6), easily clearing the height on his first attempt. He moved onto 2.03 (6-7.75), then 2.08m (6-9.75), both of which he succeeded on his first pass. Prielipp then went for a new personal-best , 2.13m (6-11.75), which was just 1/4 inch higher than his previous best (2.12m, 6-11.5); he cleared this on his second attempt. Adrenaline already coursing through his veins, Prielipp wanted to go for more than just 0.25 inches. On his second pass at 2.16m (7-1), the high jumper notched a new personal-best height of 2.16m (6-11.75). The mark ranks him first in NCAA Division II and places him at fifth (tied) in GVSU program history.
Erika Beistle, R-Sr. – Following her honor as this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Women's Athlete of the Week,
Erika Beistle has earned GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors. The Rodney, Mich. native rightfully swept conference and national honors following her record-breaking shot put performance at this weekend's GVSU Bob Eubanks Open. Throughout the field series, Beistle gradually increased in distance. On her fifth throw, the redshirt-senior recorded a personal-best 17.35m (56-11.25) shot put. More than six inches further than her previous best, Beistle rewrote GVSU's indoor shot put record, maintaining her spot as number one in program history. Following this weekend's meets, the Rodney, Mich. native's mark ranks number one in NCAA Division II, sixth across all NCAA divisions and sixth in the world.
Alaina Diaz, Sr. – Senior Lakers track and field athlete
Alaina Diaz has been named this week's GLIAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Diaz earned the honor following this weekend's GVSU Bob Eubanks Open where she updated two personal-best marks. On the track, Diaz ran a personal-best 200m time of 24.16m crossing the finish line first overall. The mark not only moved her to number two all-time in program history, but also preemptively punched her ticket to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Nearly 0.50 seconds faster than the qualifying mark, Diaz holds the second-best in NCAA Division II. Her success existed off the track, as well. Just an hour before hitting the start line, Diaz shattered Grand Valley State's indoor long jump record recorded in 2002. With a 6.17m (20-3) mark, Diaz currently ranks fourth in NCAA DII and has etched her name as GVSU's indoor and outdoor long jump record holder.
