ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team continues their week on the road, traveling out of state to Parkside and Roosevelt. The number one team in the country will play the Rangers Thursday night and then close out the weekend Saturday afternoon in Chicago against their fellow Lakers.

The Lakers began the week with an 88-59 victory in Big Rapids over #22 Ferris State. After a close first half, GVSU dominated the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 51-26 over the final 20 minutes to pull away for a win. Five Lakers reached double-figures in the win, led by
Paige VanStee tying her career-high with 26 points.
Nicole Kamin added 15 points and eight assists, with
Molly Anderson scoring 11.
MacKenzie Bisballe and
Lauren Slagle each tallied 10 points apiece. GVSU shot 11-22 from beyond the arc in the victory, their best shooting percentage of the season.
At 16-0 to begin the season, Grand Valley State has tied their best start in program history, previously set in the 1997-98 season. Monday's win moved them to 8-0 in the conference, at least one game up on every other team in the league. GVSU leads the conference in both scoring offense (82.3) and scoring defense (53.3), with the +29 scoring margin tops in the country. VanStee has scored 20 or more points in three consecutive games, the longest streak since Emily Spitzley did it in the 2021-22 season.
Parkside has had a roller coaster to start the season, starting 4-2, then going on a 1-5 stretch, before winning three of their most recent four games to enter at 8-8. They are 3-5 in the conference, earing wins over PNW, SVSU, and LSSU, all within the last two weeks. Sophomore Katie Hamill is fifth in the GLIAC is scoring, averaging over 15 points a contest, while Cassidy Arni and Lillie Peterson are both also above 10 points a game. All three of them are also the top three rebounders on the squad. The Rangers were the lone team to beat GVSU in conference play a season ago, winning 79-77 in Kenosha.
Rounding out the weekend will be a matchup with the newest team in the conference, Roosevelt. The second-year Division II program has started the 2025-26 season 4-11 overall and 3-5 in league play. They have beaten Parkside, PNW, and SVSU in conference play, splitting their last six games. The Lakers rank near the bottom of the league in both scoring offense, ninth at 59.3 ppg, and scoring defense, eighth at 66.9 ppg. Individually, they have three players averaging double-figures, led by junior guard Kelly Boyle, who scores 12.9 a contest. Isabella Pitta averages a near double-double for Roosevelt, totaling 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds, good for second in the league. GVSU swept Roosevelt in the two matchups last season, winning 70-51 in Chicago, then 116-62 in Allendale.
