Laker Ladies Best Ferris State 88-59

BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The top-ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team traveled to Big Rapids for a matchup with the number 22 team in the country, Ferris State. Following a tight first 20 minutes, GVSU used a dominant second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 51-26 over the final two periods to claim an 88-59 victory.

Grand Valley State began the game with a 7-4 lead, but the Bulldogs answered to take an 8-7 advantage. That would be their lone lead of the day, as four straight Laker points had them back up by three. It was as much as a four-point Laker edge, before Ferris State tallied the final four points of the quarter, tying the game at 17.

The start of the second quarter was the Lauren Slagle show, as she buried three three-pointers in a two-minute span to help the Lakers lead 26-22. The Laker lead grew to as many as seven off back-to-back MacKenzie Bisballe layups, but it settled at four, 37-33, at the break.

After the two teams exchanged baskets to begin the second half, GVSU went on a 14-0 run, getting threes from Paige VanStee and Nicole Kamin, as they led 62-42. The Lakers kept their lead above 20 points the remainder of the quarter, up 67-46 at the conclusion of 30 minutes of action.

Ava Scanlon sank consecutive layups at the start of the fourth quarter, then Molly Anderson buried one from deep, opening a 28-point Laker advantage. Anderson would hit another triple, and VanStee connected twice from beyond the arc, giving the Lakers their 16th victory of the season.

Paige VanStee tied a career-high with 26 points, shooting 10-15 from the floor, adding seven rebounds and two steals. Nicole Kamin had 15 points and eight assists, to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Molly Anderson totaled 11 points and four assists, with MacKenzie Bisballe and Lauren Slagle each scoring 10 points.
