Top-Ranked GVSU Pulls Away From Michigan Tech To Stay Unbeaten

Nicole Kamin Records Her 1,000th Career Point In The Win

HOUGHTON, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team began 2026 Friday afternoon at Michigan Tech. The Huskies kept it close through three quarters, but the Lakers pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 73-53. GVSU is now 11-0 this season and 3-0 in GLIAC play.
 
Grand Valley State started the game on a 9-0 run, hitting three triples, one from MacKenzie Bisballe, and next two from Nicole Kamin. The first three-pointer from Kamin gave her over 1,000 points in her Laker career. The Huskies came back to get within four, but GVSU responded with six straight points to lead 15-5. The two teams traded a three-pointer each, with Molly Anderson connecting for the Lakers, who led by 10 after the first quarter, 23-13.
 
Three minutes into the second quarter, Michigan Tech had their deficit down to six points, until Bisballe connected on consecutive buckets to put GVSU back up by 10. The Huskies kept chipping away, getting within four late in the half, as they ended on an 8-4 run, making it 35-29 at the break.
 
Bisballe and Paige VanStee opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers, extending the Laker lead up to 12 points. The lead grew to as big as 14 points off a Kamin triple a few possessions later. MTU answered back a quarter-closing 9-2 scoring run, as GVSU only led 50-47 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
The Lakers dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Huskies 23-10 in the final stanza. It started with an Anayya Davis three that opened a 9-0 run to push the lead up to 59-43. Michigan Tech would get back within 12, but could draw no closer, with VanStee registering eight straight points to put the game away late in the quarter and wrap up the win.
 
MacKenzie Bisballe had a monster game, scoring a season-high 22 points, hitting 9-13 shots, adding seven boards and two assists. Paige VanStee tallied 13 points, hitting three triples, and Nicole Kamin had 11 points and four assists. Lexi Plitzuweit and Molly Anderson each had five assists.
 
Up Next
The Lakers stay up north, heading to Northern Michigan Saturday for a matchup of the two ranked teams in the conference. The game is scheduled for 1:00 in Marquette.
