GOLDEN, COLO. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team closed out their opening weekend at the Colorado Mines Tournament, splitting the final day of action. They defeated South Dakota Mines in four sets, then fell to Colorado Mines in five sets. GVSU returns home with a 3-1 record after the first weekend of action.
The Lakers took the first set against South Dakota Mines 25-20, then fell in set two 18-25. GVSU responded to take the final two sets of the match 25-19 in set number three, then took extra points in set four, winning 28-26.
Brianna Stawski had a monster game, tallying 19 kills on a .567 hitting percentage, adding three total blocks.
Meghan O'Sullivan and
Kate Goudreau each had 11 kills, while O'Sullivan dishing out 26 assists and posting eight digs, and Goudreau swinging at a .474 clip.
Caroline Baker had 24 assists, while
McKenzie Johnson had 14 digs.
In the finale of the weekend, the Lakers and Orediggers played a five-set thriller. After Mines took the first two sets, 25-20, 25-21, Grand Valley State answered back with two dominating wins, 25-15 and 25-13. In the fifth set, GVSU held off one match point to force extra points but ultimately fell 16-14.
O'Sullivan totaled her second triple-double of the season, posting 10 kills, 18 assists, and 12 digs. Stover had 12 kills and 16 digs, with Stawski tallying 11 kills and
Kennedy Arp had 10. Baker dished out 28 assists, with Johnson notching 22 digs.
Meghan O'Sullivan was named the Tournament MVP, while
Brianna Stawski and
Kendall Stover earned All-Tournament honors.

GVSU begins their home slate next week, hosting the 2025 Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic. They play Central Missouri and Wheeling on Friday, then finish with a game against Hillsdale Saturday afternoon.
