• GVSU is coming off a 45-9 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) last Saturday in the season-opening game, while Black Hills State dropped a 27-21 decision to Sioux Falls (S.D.) at home. The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.Â
• Last Week - Grand Valley State scored on its opening offensive possession and never looked back en route to a 45-9 win over Lincoln (Pa.). The Lakers outscored the Lions 24-0 in the second half. QB
Andrew Schuster completed a single-game freshman record 80.9 percent of his passes (17-of-21) for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Senior RB
Syone Usma-Harper rushed seven times for 83 yards and a touchdown, while junior

Black Hills State trailed 13-0 after one quarter of action, but scored two second quarter touchdowns to pull within six (20-14) at the half. Each team scored a third quarter TD. The Yellowjackets managed just 58 rushing yards and 16 first downs, but passed for 248 yards. Quarterback Luke Duby completed 24-of-36 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns. WR TJ Chukwurah caught 10 passes for 109 yards and three TD to lead the receiving unit. LB Rune Tepolt led the Black Hills State defense with nine tackles, while Terrence Curtis and Beto Ledezma added eight tackles apiece. Defensive end Isaiah Morales added four tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss (-16) and 2.0 QB sacks (-16).Â
• GVSU is the all-time winningest DII football program in terms of winning percentage for teams that have played over 500 games with a record of 455-153-3 (.746). Â
• GVSU has now been ranked in the top 10 of a national preseason poll 21 times since 2002 (24 polls), including 18 top five rankings and 14 top three rankings.
• Grand Valley State has won 10 or more games 20 times in the 53-year history of the program, including 18 times since 2001.
• GVSU led the nation in total attendance (80,523) and average per game (10,065) in eight home dates during the 2024 campaign. GVSU has led the nation for 13 consecutive years.Â

Grand Valley State is under the direction of third-year head football coach
Scott Wooster. Wooster has led the Lakers to a 23-4 mark, including two NCAA Division II playoff appearances and a GLIAC title his first two years.

• RS freshman QB Andrw Schuster completed a freshman, single-game record 80.9 percent (17-of-21) of his passes vs. Lincoln. In addition, he completed passes to seven different players and completed three passes of 30 yards or more.Â

Mathew Bacik averaged 64.2 yards on five kickoffs with three touchbacks. In addition, Bacik converted 1-of-2 field goals, making 42 yarder and missing a 54 yarder wide left.Â
• GVSU opened the season with a Labor Day weekend crowd of 12,136. GVSU led the nation in total attendance (80,523) and average per game (10,065) in eight home dates during the 2024 campaign. GVSU has led the nation for 13 consecutive years.Â
