#19 Laker Volleyball Defeats Davenport

Jason Johnson Earns Win Number 100 With The Victory

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Rivalry week continued for the GVSU women's volleyball team, playing Davenport Saturday afternoon. In a battle of the top two teams in the league, the Lakers defeated the Panthers in four sets, completing a weekend sweep. The win moves GVSU to 9-2 overall and alone in first place in the GLIAC at 4-0. The win was also the 100th career victory for head coach Jason Johnson, the third Laker coach to reach that mark.
 
The Lakers dropped the opening set 22-25 but responded to take the next three by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22. Davenport got out to a quick start in the opening set, going up 11-2. The Lakers responded with a 10-2 run, getting within one at 13-12. They would never get any closer, as Davenport held the lead the entire set, going up 1-0. Set two saw GVSU go up 5-1 to start, but moments later, DU tied the game at seven. The Panthers eventually took a 13-11 lead, but GVSU responded with a 9-2 run, going up 20-15, closing it out from there, tying the match at one.
 
Davenport took an 8-5 set three lead, once again putting the Lakers in a hole. GVSU answered back, scoring five consecutive points to take a 10-8 lead. They would never relinquish the lead, winning their second straight set. With GVSU leading 13-8, Davenport replied with a 7-0 run, going up 15-13. Once again, the Lakers responded, this time with a 6-1 run, giving them a 19-16 lead. The Panthers came back to tie it at 20, but Grand Valley would end the game with a 5-2 lead, winning their sixth straight match.  
 
Kendall Stover posted a double-double, with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Brianna Stawski and Kennedy Arp both recorded 12 kills, with Stawski adding seven blocks and a .524 hitting percentage, while Arp swung .429. Meghan O'Sullivan tallied 25 assists, nine kills, and nine digs. Kate Goudreau totaled six kills and 2.5 blocks. Caroline Baker dished out 22 assists, adding 11 digs, while Olivia Behen had a team-high 18 digs. As a team, the Lakers tallied 14 blocks and served seven aces.

The Lakers are back home next Thursday, hosting Wayne State at 6:00 in the Fieldhouse.
