GVSU Sweeps LSSU In GLIAC Opener

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 18th ranked Grand Valley State women's volleyball team began conference play Friday night with a matchup against Lake Superior State. Just as they have in the previous 61 meetings, GVSU came away victorious, recording a sweep. The victory moves the Lakers to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play.

Grand Valley State won all three sets by the score of 25-13. In set one, GVSU dominated from the opening serve, going up 12-4 early and never looking back, ending the game on a 3-0 run to clinch the set. The second set was much like the first, as GVSU never let LSSU get anything going, allowing back-to-back points only once in the set, once again winning 25-13. With GVSU holding a 5-4 set three lead, a kill by Kate Goudreau kicked off an 8-0 run that gave them a 13-4 advantage. From there, Grand Valley cruised to completing the sweep over their fellow Lakers.

The Lakers hit .405 as a team and held LSSU to .011 over the three sets. Brianna Stawski tallied a team-high nine kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Kendall Stover and Sara Pahl both had six kills, with Stover adding 12 digs and Pahl had five. Meghan O'Sullivan posted 16 assists, 10 digs, and five kills.
