ALLENDALE – The No. 4 Grand Valley State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 3 Minnesota State Friday (Sept. 12) night. The Lakers fall to 2-1 while the Mavericks improve to 2-0-1.
Minnesota State scored the game-winning goal in the 71
st minute. GVSU outshot Minnesota State 24-8, while the Mavericks held a 4-3 shots on goal advantage. The Lakers produced seven corner kicks and held Minnesota State to two.
Sonya Mehta and
Alli French led GVSU with four shots each.
Alex Williams,
Cora Conley, and
Sarah Fromm each notched three shots.
Kendall Aikens and
Amanda Palmer each added two shots. Defenders
Mackenzie Ford and
Acadia Murphy played all 90 minutes.
Sara Csernyik got the start in goal and made three saves.
GVSU will conclude their home opening weekend on Sunday, September 14
