Rylie Bisballe and Myles Kerner Named GLIAC Scholar-Athletes Of The Year

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their men's and women's Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and Grand Valley State swept the honors. Rylie Bisballe was the women's honoree and Myles Kerner claimed the men's award for the second straight year.
 
Grand Valley State women's basketball player Rylie Bisballe has been selected as the GLIAC Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The fifth-year player has helped lead GVSU to a National Championship and a 38-2 record. She led the team with 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds, recording five double-doubles on the season. She shot 51.8% from the field and 72.1% from the free throw line. The Lake City, Michigan native was second on the team in steals with 67, and in blocks, totaling 31. This season, she moved into the top- five in program history in points, made field goals, and rebounds. Throughout her career in Allendale, Bisballe has been a two-time WBCA All-American and a two-time D2CCA All-American. Additionally, she was the 2025 D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year and a two-time GLIAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year. She has earned four All-GLIAC honors, been on four GLIAC All-Defensive teams, and been named to the D2CCA Midwest All-Region first team for two consecutive seasons. The College Sports Communicators Academic All-American selection, posted a 3.71 GPA, obtaining her accounting degree. She earned a GLIAC Commissioner's Award, for the second of her career.
 
For the second consecutive year, throws star Myles Kerner has been named a recipient of the GLIAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The redshirt-senior closed out his final season in Grand Valley State gear with extensive additions to his résumé. At the beginning of the 2024-25 indoor season, Kerner shattered the GVSU Kelly Family Sports Center shot put record. His 19.69m (64-7.25) broke the previous facility record (19.57m / 64-2.5) by nearly five inches, a mark that Kerner had thrown in 2023. He continued to dominate the remainder of the season; Kerner competed at the 2025 USATF Indoor Championships ahead of the GLIAC Indoor Championships, where he placed first and third in shot put and weight throw, respectively. Following the conference championships, Kerner snagged another two podium spots at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. He was crowned back-to-back champion in shot put with a 19.22m (63-0.75) mark and placed fourth in weight throw with a launch of 20.29m (66-7). The four-time GLIAC Commissioner's Award honoree excelled in the classroom, as well. Kerner recently graduated with an M.S. in Communications with a 3.7 cumulative graduate GPA. He was named the 2024 GLIAC Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, has been named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honoree twice and has earned a spot on the Dean's List (3.5+ GPA) or the President's List (4.0+ GPA) every semester enrolled at Grand Valley State.
