The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced today that Grand Valley State captured the 2024-25 Learfield Directors' Cup title with a Division II record point total of 1,080.5 points in the maximum number of 15 sports. The Lakers' have won five consecutive titles and the 17 Directors' Cup crowns overall is a Division II record. GVSU has also finished among the top two in the final standings each of the last 21 years the trophy has been presented. The Lakers have won 17-of-the-last-20 titles overall. Wingate finished second with 837.25 points, followed by West Texas A&M (806.25), Indianapolis (789.75) and Tampa (755.5). Among fellow GLIAC members, Ferris State finished 38th (422.5), Wayne State finished 39th (417.0) and Saginaw Valley State finished 53rd (362.5).
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup trophy, which is commonly known as the all-sports trophy, is presented to the top athletic department in the country each year. The scoring system is based on the top 15 national finishes of men's and women's sports, but must include men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball in the final point totals.
Grand Valley State scored 278.0 points in the fall, followed by 424.5 points in the winter and 377.0 in the spring. GVSU scored points in 20 sports, highlighted by national championships in women's basketball and women's outdoor track & field. The Lakers recorded 13 top 10 finishes and nine top five finishes. In addition, GVSU did not count the point totals in football (53), men's wrestling (60.8), women's tennis (25), men's golf (40) and lacrosse (25).

"This is a direct reflection of the type of individuals we attract to Grand Valley State and how they compete throughout each of our sports and when I think about five consecutive and 17 overall, I am humbled by the work and effort that goes into this accomplishment. In addition, our student-athletes achieved at a high level in the classroom and represented Grand Valley State in our communities with over 6,000 hours of community service," added Becker.
Grand Valley State also claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) 2024-25 Presidents' Trophy for the 26th consecutive year and a GLIAC-best 31st time overall. The Presidents' Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy, is awarded at the end of each year of competition to the conference member having demonstrated general excellence in all sports. The Presidents' Trophy is designed to promote well-rounded athletic programs within each member institution.
