GVSU Drops 15-12 Decision To Northwood In NCAA Midwest Regional Action

The Lakers will host Lewis Saturday at 11 am

Grand Valley State (42-13) dropped a 15-12 decision to Northwood Friday afternoon in NCAA DII Midwest Regional action. The Lakers will face Lewis in an elimination game Saturday (May) at 11 am. 

The Lakers fell behind for the second consecutive day as Northwood, the home team, built a 7-0 lead after two innings of play. The Lakers scored one run in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth to pull within 7-3. 
 
GVSU then put eight on the board in the top of the fifth to take an 11-7 lead. 1B Jovan Gill started the inning with a solo home run and C Brendan Guciardo doubled with one out. 3B Caleb Estrado walked and CF Caleb Thelen singled to load the bases. RF Ryan Stimac singled to center to drive in a pair of runs. 2B Ayden VanEnkevort and SS Evan Morrison walked and Thelen scored on a wild pitch. LF Ryan Dykstra his grand slam to right to give GVSU an 11-7 lead. 
 
Northwood scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but GVSU answered in the top of the seventh with a run. Evan Morrison tripled to left and scored on a Gill sac fly. 
 
The Timberwolves scored seven runs on three hits, two hit by pitch, one walk and one error in the bottom half of the eighth. 
 
Dykstra was 2-4 with a grand slam, while Gill was 1-5 with a home run and two RBI. Stimac was 3-5 with two runs and two RBI and Thelen was 3-5 with two runs scored. Morris was 2-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. 
 
Collin Bradley logged six innings on the mound, yielding eight runs on 12 hits. Gill and Will Goebel also saw action on the hill.
