Allendale, Mich. – Freshman Sarbina Nauss has been named the 2025 NCAA Women's Wrestling Freshman of the Year, as announced by The Open Mat.
In her first year as a Laker, Nauss emerged as one of the top performers on the roster in the 180-pound weight class. She finished the season with a 26-3 record, capturing both a Regional Championship and National Runner-Up honors.
Nauss posted a 7-1 dual match record, scoring a total of 35 dual points and 92 tournament points. She recorded 15 falls, eight technical falls, and three decision victories. Her fastest pin of the season came in just 33 seconds.
She concluded the 2024–25 season as both an All-American and a Scholar All-American.
"It means a lot to me, and I think it means so much because it shows how special GVSU is and how amazing our team and coaching staff are. I couldn't have gotten through this year without my teammates—Jake, Mar, and JJ—for helping me improve my wrestling and being by my side, especially during weight cuts." stated Sabrina Nauss.
