Lakers Take Down Davenport 12-3

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Following yesterday's cancellation due to weather, the GVSU women's lacrosse team was able to get their game at Davenport in this afternoon. After a defensive battle in the first half, the Lakers dominated the final 30 minutes to pull away with a 12-3 win. GVSU is now 8-3 overall and atop the GLIAC standings at 3-0.
 
The two teams traded goals throughout most of the first quarter, with the Lakers getting goals from Zoe Ziegler and Ella Boose. With the game tied at two, Grace Maddox put GVSU up front with 3:23 left. Grand Valley State would lead the rest of the game.
 
Scoring the lone goal of the second quarter was Mara Misiurewicz, who got an assist from Ashleigh Rothe to make it 4-2 at the break.
 
Ziegler opened the second half with her second goal. Davenport answered back to make it 5-3 with 7:59 remaining in the period. Ziegler then added another, followed by a score from Kendra Swope, and a fourth from Ziegler, putting the Lakers up 8-3 after three quarters.
 
In the fourth quarter, GVSU outscored DU 4-0. Scoring for the Lakers were Swope, Emerson Holthouser, and Gracie Bancroft twice. Sarah Krause made four saves in the final 15 minutes to keep the Panthers off the scoresheet.
 
Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause were fantastic in the cage, combining for 10 saves, allowing just the three goals, while both picking up four groundballs. Cater earned the 200th save of her Laker career, becoming just the four Laker to reach that milestone. Quinn McElroy tallied three groundballs, while Kylie Waeghe, Emerson Holthouser, Ella Boose, and Ashleigh Rothe all had two. Waeghe also added two caused turnovers.
 
Zoe Ziegler led the way offensively with four goals, with Kendra Swope and Gracie Bancroft each scoring twice. Ella Boose, Emerson Holthouser, Mara Misiurewicz, and Grace Maddox all totaled one goal. Ashleigh Rothe dished out two assists, and Kayleigh Sandell and Bancroft both had one.
 
Up Next
The Lakers are back on the field in less than 24 hours, returning home to host SVSU Friday at noon.
