Lakers Earn Comeback Win to Claim GLIAC Tournament Championship

Box Score MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Wayne State to claim the GLIAC Tournament Championship for the third time in program history. The Lakers improve to 15-4 on the season.
 
Wayne State claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. Estefania Hernandez and Rachel Sam tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas dropped a tough 1-6 decision at the top doubles position. Ipek Sakiroglu and Kalomoira Ralli dropped a tough 3-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles action, Wayne State claimed the first two singles matches to go up 3-0. Estefania Hernandez made it 3-1 after claiming a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 three-set win at No. 4 singles. Kalomoira Ralli posted a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4three-set win at No. 6 singles. Ipek Sakiroglu tied the match at 3-3 after claiming a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 three-set win at No. 5 singles. Anna Soteras completed the comeback and clinched the win with a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 three-set win at No. 3 singles, winning the tiebreaker 9-7.
