MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team started postseason play with a 4-2 win over Purdue Northwest in the GLIAC Semifinals Saturday (April 26) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 15-2 on the season.
Purdue Northwest claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Victor Lopes and
Lucas Gonzalez dropped a tough 1-6 decision at the top doubles position.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov fell 1-6 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 three-set win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda added a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Lucas Gonzalez dropped a tough 4-6, 4-6 decision at No. 2 singles.
GVSU advances to the GLIAC Championship match where they will face Wayne State Sunday (April 27) morning. First serve is set for 10:00 AM in Midland, Michigan.
