Laker Lacrosse Claims Senior Day Victory

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team closed out their weekend with a Senior Day matchup against Concordia-St. Paul. The Lakers got an early lead, and never looked back, winning 10-5. GVSU is now 11-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play.
 
Before the game, the Lakers held Senior Day, celebrating the careers of Sema Hasanof, Kaylyn Cater, Zoe Ziegler, Karleigh Rothe, and Ashleigh Rothe. This class has won 63 games, three GLIAC regular season titles, three GLIAC tournament titles, and one regional title.
 
GVSU got the scoring started with a goal from Gracie Bancroft, off a pass from Kendra Swope. Swope then added a goal of her own, making it 2-0. The Golden Bears cut the lead in half with their first goal. The Lakers responded with a 4-0 run, getting goals from Zoe Ziegler, Swope, Ashleigh Rothe, then another from Ziegler. CSP picked up a late goal, making it 6-2 after 15 minutes.
 
The Golden Bears tallied two more goals to begin the second quarter, cutting their deficit to two goals. Indira Marker gave GVSU some breathing room with her first score of the day, giving them a 7-4 halftime lead.
 
The lone goal of the third period belonged the Ziegler, who scored with 1:12 left in the quarter. She then notched another goal early in the fourth quarter, making it 9-4. CSP scored for a fifth time, then Bancroft took a pass from Rothe and tallied the final goal of the day.
 
Zoe Ziegler led the way offensively, scoring four goals on just five shots. Kendra Swope and Gracie Bancroft each scored twice, with Indira Marker and Ashleigh Rothe both notched a goal. Rothe tallied two assists and Swope had one. The Lakers won the draw control battle 14-5, with Kayleigh Sandell picking up six and Ella Boose gathering five.
 
Kaylyn Cater posted four saves in the first half, then Sarah Krause notched three more in the second half. Ashleigh Rothe picked up five groundballs, Swope added three, and five Lakers all had two. Rothe caused three turnovers, with Elora Ferrie and Karleigh Rothe both causing two.
