ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team returned home and split a GLIAC doubleheader against Ferris State Saturday (April 12) afternoon. The Lakers move to 17-21 on the season and 8-8 in the GLIAC.
Game One – L, 7-4 (8-Innings)
Ferris State opened up the scoring in the third inning scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs hit an RBI single to center field and a sacrifice fly to left field. GVSU got on the board in the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half.

In the sixth inning,
Elizabeth Wesoloski launched a two-run home run that hit the top of the fence to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead. That home run was Wesoloski's second of the season. Ferris State answered in the seventh inning scoring two runs to retake the lead. GVSU would tie the game at four in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Wesoloski hit a clutcg RBI single with two outs to send the game to extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Ferris State would score three runs to take a 7-4 lead. The Bulldogs regained the lead with a bunt single and added two more runs on an RBI groundout and sacrifice fly to center field.
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 3-3 with a home run, three runs batted in, and a run scored.
Madelynn Pope went 1-3 with a run scored and a walk.
Grace Usher,
MaryJane Goodman, and
Kylie Sinal each added a hit.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all eight innings allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts.
Game Two – W, 3-2
Ferris State scored the first run of the game in the third inning off a sacrifice fly to center field. The Lakers quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Carsyn Segorski tied the game with an RBI single to right field that scored
Morgan Spicer. Later in the inning, Segorski stole second base which allowed the pinch runner
Kenedy Coombe to score from third on the throw over to second.
The Bulldogs would tie the game at two in the fourth inning off an RBI single to center field. GVSU would retake the lead in the fifth inning to go ahead 3-2.
Eliana Eiland hit a ball to first base, the Bulldog fielder tried to throw out
Kylie Sinal at home, but she beat the throw and was safe at the plate. The Lakers would shut down the Bulldogs in the final two innings to claim the game two win.
Carsyn Segorski batted 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.
Morgan Spicer hit 2-3 with a run scored.
Nevaeh Ingram and
Kylie Sinal each added a hit. Ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing all seven innings allowing two runs off seven hits with three strikeouts.
The Lakers will close out the weekend with a home doubleheader against Davenport tomorrow (April 13) afternoon. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field. Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
