#11 GVSU Claims 9-3 GLIAC Victory Over Roosevelt

The Lakers are 25-9 overall and 8-5 in GLIAC action

#11 Grand Valley State claimed a 9-3 GLIAC home win over Roosevelt University Friday (Apr. 11) at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers improve to 25-9 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC. Grand Valley State and Roosevelt will play a Saturday (April 12) doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
 
Pitching dominated the first three innings as neither team recorded a hit. GVSU scored the lone run through the first three innings in unearned fashion. C Brendan Guciardo reached on an error and scored on a Nick Krstich sac fly. 
 
Roosevelt scored three runs on six hits in the top of the fourth, but GVSU was able to get the offense going in the bottom of the sixth four runs to take a 5-3 lead. RF Ryan Stimac and 3B Caleb Estrada opened the inning with singles and SS Evan Morrison tripled to right to plate two. 1B Jonas Gulbrandsen plated Morrison with sac fly. LF Ryan Dykstra walked with one out and later scored on an Ayden VanEnkevort fielder's choice.  
 
The Lakers added two runs in the top of the seventh on three hits. CF Caden Thelen singled and later scored on an Estrada double and Dykstra singled home Estrada. Stimac tripled in the eighth to push two runs across the plate.
 
Jayden Dentler improved to 7-0 on the year, yielding three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in seven innings worked. Colby Phipps tallied his third save of the year with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
 
Morrison was 1-4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Stimac was 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Estrada was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
