ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State's three-day, four-meet weekend has finally come to a close. Over the course of the weekend, several personal-bests were recorded, two new NCAA Division II (DII) number one spots were claimed by Lakers and one school record was broken.

Bobcat Invitational – Texas State University (San Marcos, Tex.)
Michael Griffey began the day for GVSU, competing in hammer at 11 a.m. The freshman threw for 50.96m (167-02).
Shelby Ulven wrapped up the women's event Saturday evening. She won the event with a 59.64m (195-08) throw that ranks her third in all of NCAA DII.
Women's high jump was the next field event.
Heidi Newhouse and
Alexis Weber tied for eighth in the event, recording personal-best marks of 1.66m (5-5.25) to rank 15 in NCAA Division II. Their marks tie them for ninth in Grand Valley's all-time top 10 record book.
Kaylee Diamond competed, as well, clearing 1.61m (5-3.25) in her first outdoor season for the Lakers.
Camryn Battjes competed for GVSU in pole vault. He recorded a 4.70m (15-5) height, tying for 15
th in the event.
The women's squad of
Catherine Guckenberger,
Taylor Kyle,
Jayla Graham and
Alaina Diaz began the 4x100m relay event. The team finished at 45.85 to rank seventh at the meet. Their time was the sixth-fastest finish in Grand Valley State program history. The men's team, consisting of
Michael McNeil, Jake Machiniak, Nick Walper and
Myles Rhodes, followed the women. The squad finished fifth overall at 40.34 – the third fastest finish in GVSU program history.
Brooke Barkocy and
Destini Dorkins kicked off Saturday's hurdles events with the women's 100m. Barkocy finished 10
th overall, grabbing the new number four spot in NCAA Division II at 14.00. Dorkins crossed the finish line at 14.67 to rank 27
th in the event.
Ethan Smith ran in the men's 110m hurdles, following the women. He recorded a season-best finish at 14.47
Freshmen
Addison Washler and
Claire Neumann raced alongside
Catherine Guckenberger in the women's 400m. Washler finished at 54.85 to rank sixth in the event and eighth in NCAA DII. Her time is the sixth-fastest in GVSU program history. Guckenberger was the next to finish, crossing the finish line at 55.24. She ranked ninth in the event, 15
th in NCAA DII and eighth in GVSU program history. Neumann impressed, as well, completing her 400m debut in 55.69. The time ranks as 13
th in the event and 19
th in NCAA DII.
Myles Rhodes ran in the first 400m heat of the GVSU men. He crossed the finish line second in his heat, recording a personal-best time of 46.37. As he is the current record holder in the event for outdoor track and field, Rhodes simply updated his time to remain in charge of the record.
Zach Pray ran next and also set a personal-best, finishing at 47.37. He updated his place in Grand Valley history, too, now ranked as the fifth-fastest in the event. Chapa, running in heat eight, completed the 400m at 49.06.
The next event Grand Valley competed in was the women's 100m.
Taylor Kyle ran first, finishing fifth in heat four (of eight total) at 11.86.
Melia Williams ran in heat seven. She finished fourth in her heat with a time of 12.44.
Texas Relays – University of Texas (Austin, Tex.)
Erika Beistle and
Andrew Berryhill competed in the shot put final events at the final day of the Texas Relays. Unfortunately, both fouled out of competition.
Beistle and Berryhill were the only two to compete Saturday.
Raleigh Relays – North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.)
Grand Valley's women started the day in Raleigh with the 800m event.
Lilly Alberts was the first to cross the finish line for GVSU, finishing fourth in her heat and 34
th overall at a personal-best time of 2:08.88. Her mark goes down as the seventh-best in GVSU program history.
Klaudia O'Malley was the next finisher, recording a 2:10.51 finish that put her 50
th overall. The final three Lakers were less than a second from each other in terms of finish times.
Megan Postma crossed the finish line at 2:11.13,
Natalie Graber completed the event at 2:11.18 and
Maria Mitchell finished at a personal-best 2:11.54.
The men's 800m had four Lakers compete. Pat Lyell led the squad, finishing at 1:52.16. Next was
Sam Allen, who completed his outdoor 800m debut in 1:53.08.
Quinton Bauer was just behind Allen, finishing at 1:53.21.
Scott Spaanstra rounded out the lineup with a finish at 1:54.25.
The final two events of the day were the women's and men's 4x400m relays. Grand Valley's women's team of
Megan Postma,
Lilly Alberts,
Maria Mitchell and
Klaudia O'Malley, competed in the first heat of the event. The squad ranked fourth in the heat with a finish at 3:53.66.
Representing the men's 4x400m team were
Sam Allen,
Quinton Bauer, Pat Lyell and
Scott Spaanstra, who all ran the 800m earlier in the evening. The squad finished at 3:24.66, ranking fourth in their heat.

Grand Valley's track and field squads continue outdoor competition at this weekend's home opener. The GVSU Early Meet is set to begin Friday, April 4 and will continue through Sunday, April 5. Tickets will only be sold in person at all GVSU home meets. Several athletes will also compete at the Spartan Invite.
