DETROIT – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team closed their weekend on the road with a 4-3 ranked win over No. 18 Wayne State Saturday (March 29) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 11-2 on the season and 4-0 in the GLIAC.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Lucas Gonzalez and
Victor Lopes tallied a 7-6 win at the top doubles position.
Denys Zamaraiev and
Chimo Minguez posted a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov dropped a tough 2-6 decision at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 three-set win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes tallied a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 three-set win at No. 3 singles.
Jorge Ruiz posted a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Lucas Gonzalez dropped a tough 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 three-set decision at No. 2 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda fell 3-6, 4-6 at No. 5 singles.
Lawrence Ivanov lost a tough 3-6, 4-6 decision at No. 6 singles.
GVSU will return home in two weeks when they host Lake Superior State on Friday, April 11
th at 12:00 PM and Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 12
th at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be played at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
