PITTSBURGH, PENN. – The GVSU women's basketball team will play for their second National Title in program history tomorrow night, facing off against California State-Dominguez Hills at 7:00.

The Lakers took down the four seed in the tournament, beating Pittsburg State 68-61 to advance to the second National Championship game in program history. After leading by 11 at halftime, the Gorillas used a huge third quarter to comeback and tie the game at 46. GVSU responded with an 8-0 to start the fourth quarter and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.
Nicole Kamin had a monster game, scoring 21 points, 15 in the second half, adding seven steals, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Rylie Bisballe had 17 points and five rebounds, with
Paige Vanstee adding 11 points and five boards.
This is the second time in program history that GVSU has clinched a spot in the National Championship game, last playing in the 2005-06 game. They defeated American International in the championship game 58-52. That team was the winningest team in program history at 33-3 until the current team posted their 37-2 record.
California State-Dominguez Hills is in the National Championship game for the first time in their program's history. In the Elite Eight, they beat Coker 82-66, then followed that up with a 68-50 victory over Union. The Toros are 36-1 this season, winning the CCA regular season and tournament titles, then coming out of the West Region to earn the three-seed in the Elite Eight. They are led by WBCA National Player of the Year Nala Williams. Williams is averaging 17.3 points and 5.2 rebounds, while adding 159 assists and 150 steals. Williams has averaged 20 points in Pittsburgh, joined by Teagan Thurman averaging 18.5 and Cristina Jones contributing 16 over the two games. The Toros are one of the best teams in the country at forcing turnovers, ranking fifth in the country at over 26 per game, generating almost 16 steals a game. This allows them to allow just 55.5 points a game and have the third-best turnover margin in the nation.
