The Lakers played a defensive battle with Gannon on Monday in the Elite Eight. Leading 22-18 at halftime, GVSU found their offense in the second half, outscoring the Golden Knights 38-14 over the final 20 minutes to win 60-32. The 32 points was tied for the lowest total the Lakers have given up this season. Leading the way for GVSU was Rylie Bisballe, who posted her fifth double-double, notching 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. MacKenzie Bisballe was the next highest scorer with nine points, and five players had between five and seven points.

The matchup with Pittsburg State will be the sixth ranked opponent that GVSU has faced this season, going 5-0 in the previous games. In those games, GVSU has outscored the opposition 68.8 to 47.2. This is the third time under Mike Williams that the Lakers have reached the Final Four, getting there in both the 2015-16 season and the 2021-22 campaign. Grand Valley State and Pittsburg State have only met one time before this, in the 2016 Elite Eight, with the Lakers securing a 59-56 victory.

The Gorillas got past the five seed in Lubbock Christian on Monday, outscoring the Lady Chaps by nine in the second half to pull out a 66-55 win. This is the first Final Four in program history for Pitt State. The Gorillas won the MIAA regular season and tournament titles, earning the top-seed in the Central Region, where they knocked off Harding, Minnesota State-Mankato, and Southwest Minnesota State to win the region. They have one of the most efficient offenses in the country, scoring 80.4 points a game, seventh in the nation, and they shoot a nation-leading 48.3% from the field. They also shoot 36.7% from three, seventh in the country, and only turn the ball over 12.8 times a game. The Gorillas lost one of their top players to injury in the regionals but still boast two impactful pieces in Karenna Gerber and Grace Pyle. The duo averaged a combined 33.5 points over the season and poured in 40 in the win over Lubbock. With their 33 victories this season, the Gorillas have reached the most single season wins in program history.
