The Lakers were dominant in the Midwest Regional Tournament, winning their three games by an average of 23 points, none of which were closer than 12. They beat Quincy, Wayne State, and Ashland en route to their third Elite Eight in the past 10 seasons.
Paige Vanstee was the Most Outstanding Player, averaging 13.6 points on 78.9% shooting, while adding 11 rebounds, five steals, and three blocks.
Rylie Bisballe also earned All-Tournament honors, averaging 15 points and five rebounds. Bisballe was also named WBCA All-American this past week, the second straight season she earned those honors.
At 35-2 this year, the Lakers have tallied the most wins in program history, topping the 2005-06 team. GVSU still has the nation's top bench, getting 44.2 points from their reserves, over two points more than the next highest team. They have the second-best offense, scoring 84.4 points a game and the seventh-best scoring defense, allowing just 52.8 points. Among teams still in the tournament, the Lakers have the best offense and the second-best defense. In their two trips to the Elite Eight under
Mike Williams, GVSU has advanced to the Final Four on both appearances.
Gannon earned the eight seed in the Elite Eight, winning the Atlantic Region, defeating Fayetteville State, Seton Hill, and IUP all by double-digits. The three wins improved the Golden Knights to 28-6 overall and making their second straight trip to the Elite Eight. Gannon has a top-30 defense in the country, allowing 56.7 points per game, in part due to their three-point defense, as teams only shoot 24.3% from deep against them. Three Golden Knights average double-figures, led by Atlantic Region All-Tournament team member Bri Claxton's 15.1 and Tournament Most Outstanding Player Kate Ratliff who posts 14.4.
