ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team wrapped up their opening weekend of GLIAC play with a 4-3 home win against Purdue Northwest Saturday (March 22) evening. The Lakers improve to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the GLIAC.
Purdue Northwest claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Victor Lopes and
Lucas Gonzalez dropped a tough 5-7 decision at the top doubles position.
Denys Zamaraiev and
Chimo Minguez dropped a tough 6-7 decision at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Lucas Gonzalez claimed a 6-3, 7-5 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 three-set win at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda posted a dominant 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Lawrence Ivanov recorded a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will be back on the court next weekend when they continue GLIAC play on the road. GVSU will face rival Ferris State on Friday, March 28
th at 2:00 PM and Wayne State on Saturday, March 29
th at 10:00 AM.
