ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball dominated Roosevelt 106-51 Saturday, March 1
st in the final game of the regular season. GVSU finishes the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and 12-8 GLIAC record.
William Dunn posted a double-double with a career high 28 points and 12 rebounds. Dunn 10-12 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.
Jalen Charity scored 19 points on 8-11 shooting with three made three-pointers and four rebounds.
Kaden Brown notched 13 points shooting 3-5 from three-point range.
Javion Otten scored a career high 11 points and six rebounds on 4-6 shooting from the field.
Charles Turner added 11 points and a career high eight rebounds.
GVSU shot 55% from the field and 83% from the free throw line. Roosevelt shot 29% from the field and 12% from three. GVSU outrebounded Roosevelt 49-33 and outscored Roosevelt 46-20 in the paint. GVSU dished out 17 assists as a team and had 51 bench points.
GVSU set tone early by starting the game on a 17-0 run in the first four minutes of the game. The Lakers started the game shooting a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and got nine early points by Dunn. Roosevelt would score their first points of the game and GVSU would respond with an 11-0 run to take a commanding 31-3 lead off back-to-back three-pointers by Turner and Brown.
GVSU would go on a quick 6-0 run to push the lead to 30 points off layups by Otten and Turner with 12 minutes to play in the half. The Lakers would increase the led to 40 points off a pair of free throws by Dunn with 45 seconds left in the half. Roosevelt scored three points before the end of the half as GVSU would take a 37-point lead into the break.
In the second half, GVSU went on a 14-4 run to go up 48 points at 76-28 six minutes into the second half. The Lakers would go up a commanding 50 points off a fastbreak and one layup by Brown with four minutes to play. The Lakers would close the final four minutes of the game outscoring Roosevelt by five points to claim the 55-point win.
GVSU will be back on the court in the GLIAC tournament quarterfinal round. GVSU is still waiting to see where they seed, but their quarterfinal matchup will be on the road on Wednesday, March 5
