Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#1 GVSU Completes Season Sweep of LSSU

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The top-ranked GVSU women's basketball team played their first home game of February Thursday night, hosting Lake Superior State. After a slow start, GVSU used a 22-4 first half run to take control, and cruise to an 83-41 win. The victory moves GVSU to 23-1 overall and 13-0 in league play, three games up on second place.

GVSU got out to an early 8-4 lead, but a 7-0 run from Lake State put them up 11-8. From there it was all GVSU, as they went on a 15-2 run, highlighted by an Abrie Cabana three-point play, to end the first quarter, leading 23-13.

The scoring run continued into the second quarter, starting on a 9-2 run, getting back-to-back and-1 layup and free throws from Nicole Kamin to push the lead to 32-15. Grand Valley's defense picked up in the second period, allowing only four points, to lead 37-17 at the half.

Grand Valley State began the second half with a 9-1 run, getting a triple from Cabana, extending their lead up to 46-18. LSSU was able to bring their deficit down to 22 points, but a 12-3 Laker run to end the quarter had them doubling up LSSU 62-31 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Two early Lake Superior State buckets got them within 27, an old-fashioned three-point play from Ellie Droste brought the GVSU lead back up to 30 points. It would never dip back below 30 the rest of the night. Cabana would connect again from deep, then Molly Anderson sank a three as well, and Hadley Miller scored the final four points of the game to round out the scoring.

Rylie Bisballe scored in double-figures for the 20th time this season, recording a team-high 16 points in just 16 minutes of action. Nicole Kamin tallied 12 points and three steals, while Abrie Cabana, Hadley Miller, and MacKenzie Bisballe all had 11 points. Paige Vanstee pulled down six boards and Molly Anderson dished out five assists.
