ALLENDALE, MICH. – The top-ranked GVSU women's basketball returns home from their trip across the bridge last weekend, playing host to LSSU and Ferris State Thursday and Saturday.

The Lakers are coming off a long trip up north, defeating Northern Michigan 74-48 and Michigan Tech 69-51. They are now 12-0 in the league, up by three games, and 22-1 overall.
Paige Vanstee was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, scoring 34 points, shooting 71% from the floor, while adding nine boards over the two games.
Nicole Kamin earned league defensive honors, tallying 26 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals, six assists, and a block across the two Laker victories.
In the first matchup against LSSU, GVSU dominated from the opening tip, leading 35-6 after the opening quarter. They put up 63 points in the first half, cruising to a 104-48 victory. Six players scored in double-figures, led by
Paige Vanstee's 14-point, 10-rebound double-double. GVSU shot 55.6% from the floor and 45.8% from three in the victory, forcing 31 turnovers.
Since losing to Grand Valley, Lake Superior State has started to tailspin, amid a seven-game losing streak. They have fallen to 5-15 overall and 2-10 in league play, sitting in ninth in the GLIAC standings. Two players average double-figures for LSSU, led by Grace Bradford's 14.7 points, ranking second in the league, and Breah Golden's 12.7. The Lakers have the second worst defense in the league, allowing 73.2 points per game.
Meeting up in Big Rapids in early January, the Lakers led by 12 at halftime, then used a strong third quarter to push their lead to 21 points after three quarters. From there they closed out an 83-61 win.
Rylie Bisballe had a team-high 15 points, then five other Lakers scored nine points for a balanced scoring attack.
The Bulldogs are second in the GLIAC, entering at 9-3 in league play and 15-6 overall. They have dropped two of their previous four games, falling to Northern Michigan and Roosevelt, both at home. FSU has the second-best offense in the league, averaging 78.1 points a game, with three players inside the top-25 in scoring in the conference. Mia Riley is fifth with 13.9 ppg, while Mya Hiram and Kenzie Bowers are both in double-figures as well. Defensively, in GLIAC games only, the Bulldogs are the third-ranked team in the league, allowing 63.6 points a contest, and they clean up the glass well, grabbing over 38 rebounds a contest as well.
