ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team improved their start to the season to 5-0 after taking down Walsh 6-1 Saturday (Feb. 15) evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
GVSU swept doubles action to claim the doubles point.
Victor Lopes and
Lucas Gonzalez earned a 6-3 win at the top doubles position.
Stephen Claassen and
Patricio Sepulveda tallied a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
Chimo Minguez and
Sebastian O'Byrne added a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 three-set win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes earned a 6-4, 7-6 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda tallied a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win at No. 3 singles.
Lawrence Ivanov posted a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Jorge Ruiz added a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Sebastian O'Byrne dropped a tough 6-4, 5-7, 5-10 three-set decision at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will be back on the courts when they travel to face Northwood next Friday (Feb. 21) at 1:00 PM in Midland, Michigan.
