ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State's track and field squads closed out day one of a two-day weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational (Louisville, Ky.) and the Midwest Classic (Indianapolis, Ind.). More than 30 Lakers competed in day one of the two meets.

The unanimous highlight of day one at the University of Louisville was
Kaylee Diamond's record-breaking high jump. The junior transfer from Aquinas shattered GVSU's 32-year-old indoor high jump record with ease, clearing 1.78m (5-10.25) in just one attempt. The record has been held since 1993 by Kelly O'Brien, which was set at 1.76m (5-9.25). Diamond tied O'Brien's record at December's GVSU Holiday Open – the first meet of the season.
Mason Floria also shined on day one, recording a new personal-best in the men's 60m event (heptathlon). His 7.03 time not only earned him 872 points in the heptathlon but also earned him first place in the event.
Lucas Lesher also recorded a personal-best at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite, throwing for 16.79m (55-1) in the weight throw.
Other top 10's include James MacKey Jr.'s third place 19.01m (62-4.5) weight throw;
Colton Emeott's fourth place 4.74m (15-6.5) pole vault;
Michael Griffey's fourth place 18.84m (61-9.75) weight throw; Floria's fifth place 6.56m (21-6.25) long jump (heptathlon);
Chrisly Kelly-Cannon's sixth place 7.09m (23-3.25) long jump and Floria's seventh place 11.05m (36-3) shot put (heptathlon).
The majority of Grand Valley's athletes competed at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis and did so in impressive fashion.
Three Lakers qualified for the 60m finals based on their finishing times and positions.
Taylor Kyle qualified with a 7.69 finish, placing second in her heat and fifth overall.
Myles Rhodes and
Michael McNeil also qualified for tomorrow's finals, finishing third and fourth at 6.86 and 6.90.
In the 200m, Rhodes was the first to shatter his 21.60 record. He placed second in the event at 21.29 - the second fastest time in GVSU history. McNeil broke his ninth place record (in GVSU history) by one one-hundredth of a second, moving up to tie
Zach Pray's 21.66 eighth-place record.
Desmond Chapa also broke his 22.03 personal-best, crossing the finish line eighth at 21.82.
The Laker ladies also broke their personal-bests in the 200m, starting with
Alaina Diaz. Her eighth-place finish at 24.51 broke her previous 24.69 time. Freshman
Claire Neumann was the next to establish a PR, finishing 14
th at 25.04 – 0.03 seconds off her previous best.
Three Lakers saw action in the women's weight throw. Alexandra DiCanio (12) threw for 14.80m (48-6.75),
Sophia Snellenberger placed 14
th with a 14.49m (47-6.5) throw and
Natalia Pluff rounded out the roster with a 14.03m (46-0.5) 15
th place throw.
